Another Valenwood Relative
As I mentioned in this blog's previous entry, my Hidden Elf is working her way through Oblivion's main quest with Vilja. The two characters have seemed like a good fit (though admittedly this player character has nowhere near the developed personality like Aeronwen does. Aeronwen has, after all, been living in my headspace for almost twenty years). Since they get along so well I had figured Vilja would work well with my main characters. Unfortunately during my last game things just didn't feel quite right.
This is my no means a criticism of Vilja. If anything the fact that she works with some characters but not all shows just how well written and developed Vilja is (the same with the Morrowind companion Julan). So when I restart my main game I don't think I'll include Vilja for that one. Unfortunately that left Aeronwen and Neldor once again struggling with caring for their twins while trying to earn a living by adventuring. But then another Valenwood relative stepped out and offered to help.
The character who stepped forward is Laiwyn of Grahtwood, a sister of Neldor's and Thorinor's mother Alawen. She's been living in Cyrodiil (specifically in Emma's Waterlily Cottage) because of a misunderstanding that involves her horse (the leopard Appaloosa behind her), a missing Breton and the good old Right of Theft.

She is in a relationship with an older Bosmer gentlemer named Dalonir who comes by her cottage now and then. Auntie Laiwyn therefore tells Aeronwen and Neldor that they are welcome to come by her home anytime, but she's not available to babysit if there is a bright colored scarf hanging from her doorknob.
Neldor: "Auntie!"
Laiwyn: "What? I may be getting old, but I'm not dead!"
She used to babysit Neldor and Thorinor when they were little, so she certainly has experience with taking care of children. I imagine that Thorinor and Sarasvati might have stopped by to visit her while they were in Cyrodiil, which was when Laiwyn proclaimed that Thorinor was never again allowed to use her outhouse (apparently Dalonir got caught by Thorinor's privy-film prank and was not amused).
This set up feels much more...organic than the last one. In fact I'm sure Laiwyn's backstory will continue to write itself.
